They will benefit from the thousands of people who walk, cycle and drive within yards of the attraction every week.

The lease is being advertised from today (note: Aug 14) by property agent EJ Hales on behalf of Swansea Council which owns the licensed café bar. Deadline for informal tender offers to go to Hales is September 21.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for innovation, regeneration and tourism, said:

“This is an incredible business opportunity. We’re looking for tenants who can provide an exceptional public service to match the environment.

“With a vast expanse of sandy beach and Mumbles Head nearby this location has probably the best views of any commercial property in Wales.

“It’s a brilliant location on Swansea Prom, just a few steps from the beach and opposite the famous St Helen’s cricket ground. It’s around a mile from the city centre on a national cycle track, the Wales Coastal Path and just off the main Mumbles Road.

“We’re confident it’ll be let in the coming months; indeed, we’ve already had more than 30 informal expressions of interest from local businesses.”

The Beach and Watersports Café has:

  • An on-site council-operated pay and display car park
  • Inside and outside seating
  • Canopy area
  • Public café area and private function room
  • Changing rooms, toilets
  • Kitchen, storage space and office

Activities it is licensed to host include film, music and dance. The use of the beach for sport, physical activity and recreation is also available by licence.
