Bradleys Coffee and Loungers commit to Llys Cadwyn

RCT Council is delighted to confirm that two new businesses have committed to Pontypridd – with Bradleys Coffee and Loungers now confirmed to occupy the new food/drink units at 3 Llys Cadwyn.

In October 2020, the final Llys Cadwyn building was handed over to the Council by contractor Willmott Dixon, marking the completion of the strategic development at the former Taff Vale site. It has been delivered thanks to a significant £10m investment from the European Regional Development Fund, through Welsh Government’s £110m Building for the Future Programme.

Number 1 Llys Cadwyn (near Bridge Street) will include a library, customer contact point and leisure/fitness centre, while 2 Llys Cadwyn (centre building) includes Grade A office floorspace and a food/drink unit. Number 3 Llys Cadwyn (near Gas Road Car Park) is the new home of Transport for Wales and includes two food/drink units. The areas around the buildings are open to the public, including the new riverwalk and footbridge into the park.

The Council yesterday (December 9) announced that it has secured tenants who have committed to occupying the two food/drink units at 3 Llys Cadwyn.

Bradleys Coffee Ltd has signed a lease which will see Bradleys Coffee open at Unit 1 of the building. The company is an independent coffee house brand which uses quality local produce – and operates at five locations in South Wales, including established coffee houses in Aberdare and Talbot Green.

Loungers Ltd has signed a lease for Gatto Lounge to open at 3 Llys Cadwyn, Unit 2. The company is a growing operator in the UK hospitality sector and has more than 120 neighbourhood café/bars operating nationwide under its Loungers brand – which combines elements of a restaurant, British pub and coffee shop culture.

Councillor Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Housing, said: “Today’s announcement is excellent news for Pontypridd and Llys Cadwyn, as Bradleys Coffee and Gatto Lounge are now confirmed to open at 3 Llys Cadwyn in the future. These are very exciting ventures for the Council’s flagship development, and I’m sure both brands will go on to establish themselves as household names in Pontypridd and very popular places for visitors to the Town Centre to enjoy.

“After a very difficult year, 2021 is hoped to be much brighter for Pontypridd, as 1 Llys Cadwyn is ready to open when the circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic allow – providing a new library, fitness centre and customer contact point. Exciting developments at the Pontypridd YMCA and Muni Arts Centre are also progressing which will revitalise both sites, while Lido Ponty is on course to reopen for its normal Easter opening, with repairs progressing well.

“The wider Llys Cadwyn development will bring hundreds of new jobs to Pontypridd when it is fully-occupied – and this will significantly increase daily footfall for the benefit of existing Town Centre traders. Today’s announcement is a significant step towards that goal. I’m very pleased that Bradleys Coffee and Loungers have joined Transport for Wales in committing to Pontypridd, as the Council continues to progress work behind the scenes to secure further office tenants for the remaining accommodation at 2 Llys Cadwyn and the other food/drink unit.”
