Cardiff Bus to reintroduce and increase services from next week

Cardiff Bus is set to reintroduce services and increase route frequencies, as it continues making improvements following the coronavirus pandemic.

From September 1st, a number of the operator’s services will be reintroduced and improved following travel restrictions being eased across Wales.

Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus, Gareth Stevens said they were delighted to be reintroducing these much-needed services to support our customers across our network.

He said: “Here at Cardiff Bus we are extremely pleased to be returning to a more frequent level of service, which will ultimately benefit our loyal customers.

“We are reintroducing a number of services which were impacted during the pandemic, we will also be increasing the frequency to many of our services from September.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their support and understanding during this unprecedented time, and we look forward to welcoming back even more people.”

The full list of service changes from September 1st is below:

Alterations to services include, services 1 and 2 which will have their frequency increased to every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday, and an hourly service reintroduced on Saturday.

Service 4 will see an earlier morning journey and evening service reintroduced from Monday to Friday; while service 6 (Baycar) will see its frequency increased to every 30 minutes from Monday to Friday, and weekends will see service 6 reintroduced and running every 20 minutes.

Services 8 and 9 will now run every 10 minutes from Monday to Friday,and will run a combined service every 15 minutes on Saturday and Sunday; while service 9C has been reintroduced and will run every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday.

The 11 has seen its frequency increased to every 12 minutes Monday to Friday, every 15 minutes on Saturday, and 20 minutes on Sunday. Service 12 has reintroduced its hourly morning route from Monday to Friday.

Service 13 will see an hourly service to and from the Bay reintroduced, with a service to and from Drope every 30 minutes, while the frequency will be increased to hourly on Sunday.

Service 15 has been reintroduced on Saturdays with three buses per day, while 17 and 18 will run a combined service with frequency increased to five minutes from Monday to Friday,and increased to six minutes on Saturday.

The 21 and 23 services have increased in frequency between Monday and Saturday to every 30 minutes, with hourly services on Sundays.

The 24 and 25 services will run every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, with the full Sunday route reintroduced hourly; while the 27 service has seen its frequency increased to every 10 minutes between Monday and Friday, increased to every 12 minutes on Saturday, and every 20 minutes on a Sunday.

The 28 and 28A have been reintroduced with a 30minute frequency from Monday to Friday, on Saturdays every 30 minutes, and the 28B has been increased to an hourly frequency on a Sunday.

Service 30 has increased to every 30 minutes with an earlier morning journey from Monday to Saturday, while service 35 has seen an hourly Sunday service reintroduced.

Services 44 and 45 have increased in frequency to every seven minutes combined, with an earlier morning journey from Monday to Friday. Its frequency was increased to every 10 minutes combined on Saturday with an earlier morning journey, with a service every 15 minutes combined on Sunday.

The 49 and 50 services have increased In frequency every Monday to Friday to 10 minutes combined, with an earlier morning journey, with the Saturday frequency increasing to every 12 minutes combined with an earlier morning journey, and the Sunday service increasing to every 15 minutes combined.

Services 51 and 53 have been reintroduced from Monday to Saturday with some changes to afternoon times, while the 52 will run hourly from Monday to Friday, with a few journeys extended to Hampton Crescent and to Corpus Christi school on schooldays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the service will run on an hourly frequency.

Services 57 and 58 have had their frequency increased to every 7/8 mins combined from Monday to Friday, and increased to every 10 minutes combined on Saturday with earlier morning journeys, and the frequency has been increased to every 15mins combined; with earlier morning journeys on Sunday.

Service 61 has seen its frequency increased to every 12 mins; with earlier morning journeys from Monday to Friday, and increased to every 15 minutes with earlier morning journeys on Saturday, and increased to every 30 minutes on Sunday.

The 62 has been reintroduced, with an hourly service direct to and from Rhydlafar from Monday to Saturday, while the 63 will run at an hourly frequency from Monday to Saturday with earlier morning journeys, and Sunday services have been reintroduced with an hourly service to Creigiau via Radyr and Pentyrch.

The Saturday 64 service has been reintroduced at a two-hourly frequency, and the 66 has been reintroduced at an hourly frequency from Monday to Saturday.

The 92 service will run every 20 minutes from Monday to Friday, on Saturday it will run every 30 minutes, and on Sunday it will run on an hourly frequency.

The 93 has been reintroduced from Monday to Friday at an hourly frequency, while the 94 will run every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and on Sunday it will run hourly.

Services 92, 93 & 94 combined frequency will provide a bus every 10 minutes between Cardiff and Penarth on Monday to Friday, every 15 minutes on Saturdays and every 30 minutes on Sundays.

The 95 will increase to 20 minutes from Monday to Friday, with one an hour extended to Heath Hospital, it will be increased to every 20 minutes on Saturday, and every 30 minutes on Sunday.

The 95A has been reintroduced from Monday to Friday with services every 30 minutes, and hourly on Saturday.

The 96 and 96A has seen its frequency increased to every 30 minutes with earlier morning journeys from Monday to Friday, and every 30 minutes with earlier morning journeys on Saturday and Sunday. The 96A will serve Barry Island on Sundays only.

Services 97 and 97A have been reintroduced from Monday to Saturday and will run every 30 minutes in the week, and hourly on Saturday. The 98 has also been reintroduced and will run hourly from Monday to Friday mornings to early afternoon. The Sunday only Barry town service 100 has also been reintroduced.

The X45 service will run Monday to Friday every 30 minutes from St Mellons to the city centre only; with earlier and later journeys. The X59 will increase to every 30 minutes with earlier and later journey from Monday to Friday. Peak hour journeys have been extended to and from Cardiff Gate Business Park. Saturday has been reintroduced with journeys every 30 minutes,Sunday has also been reintroduced with hourly journeys.

School services 8S, 93S, 604, 606, 607, 608, 609, 610, 611, 612, 613, 614, 615 will run from 1st September 2020.

In July, the Welsh Government introduced mandatory face covering for passengers using public transport, and this is still in place across all Cardiff Bus services.

The operator is also continuing to implement its stringent cleaning protocols, with additional cleaning being undertaken across all services, with particular emphasis on passenger touch points including handrails, seats, and handles.
