Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to host first Virtual Careers Fair

In response to the ongoing coronavirus national emergency, but with continued determination to increase employment opportunities for residents, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will be hosting a FREE Virtual Careers Fair on Wednesday, February 10 to connect residents with employers who are actively recruiting.

Anyone who wishes to take part in the online event will need to register their details before the event at: www.rctcareersfair.vfairs.com

Over the last few years, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Careers Fair has grown in popularity, with over 2,100 people attending in February 2020.

In the current circumstances, it is not possible to hold the Careers Fair in the usual way. However, it is hoped that by providing a Virtual Careers Fair it will allow even more people to attend and view the opportunities on offer. This year people will have to opportunity to engage with employers and find out more information from the comfort of their own home!

The Virtual Careers Fair provides a highly interactive, 3D environment with a number of companies who have open jobs, apprenticeships and graduate apprenticeships. The Virtual Careers Fair will feature a number of pre-recorded webinars which will provide an insight and information on some of the organisations and the opportunities available, along with Webinars that support on how to successfully complete an application form and interview techniques.

Highlights the RCT Virtual Careers event has to offer:

  • Explore employer information and opportunities to find your best career fit.
  • Learn and interact with organisations about their available roles
  • Gain a competitive advantage by learning more about the participating organisations from recruiters.
  • View and apply for jobs from companies
  • If selected by a recruiter, they may engage with you through one-on-one text and audio/video based conversations during the recruiter session.

There are a huge range of local and national employers already signed up for the event, such as EE, Royal Air Force, South Wales Fire & Rescue Service, Willmott Dixon, Zipworld, Transport for Wales, Welsh Water and many more, all of which are actively recruiting.

The event will be live for one day only on Wednesday February 10, 10am-5pm. However, the event will be available to view on demand for 30 days following the event until 10 March 2021 at 23:59.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Even during these uncertain times, I’m really pleased that RCT Council has innovated to deliver the popular Careers Fair. This is the first time that RCT Council has done a Virtual Careers Fair, and everyone is hoping it will be a huge success.

“RCT Council is committed to attracting high-quality jobs to the local area and helping our residents into sustainable, reliable and well-paid employment, and the Virtual Careers Fair is one way in which we are working to accomplish this. By bringing employers to the local community, residents have the chance to interact with businesses, discover vocations they may not have considered, and potentially get themselves an interview!

“This year has been tough for many people, so anything that can be done to help bring employment opportunities closer to them is much needed.

“The Virtual Jobs Fair can be accessed live on the day, but information and webinars will be available for 30 day after the event for people to watch again.

“If you are actively looking for employment, considering a career change, looking to start out, or thinking of returning to work, I would encourage you all to register and take part in the Virtual Careers Fair.”
