Scholarship success for USW fashion student

A University of South (USW) student has won a scholarship to work with specialist tailors in Ireland.

Third-year BA hons Fashion Design student Jakub Lipjanec scooped the Handcraft Tailor Scholarship Award 2018, ahead of eight other finalists, including second-year USW undergraduate Ffion Williams.

Jakub will now undertake a 12-week paid placement in Ireland, learning bespoke tailoring techniques.

Steven Wright, Course Leader in Fashion Design at USW, said he is delighted at Jakub’s recognition.

“We are very excited Jakub was chosen to undertake this placement. It’s an amazing opportunity for him, and a great honour for USW,” he said.

“When I spoke to one of the judges they were impressed with the very high standard coming out of USW, and were impressed with the technical skills on offer on the course.

“We have also found that several students are keen to attend USW because of the tailoring component in our design programme.”
