Staff from the Pencoed-based facility, which produces HD an 4K broadcast cameras for worldwide distribution, have gone head to head in their annual Swansea vs Cardiff charity staff football tournament at Cardiff City Stadium.

During the sporting event at the home of Cardiff City FC both teams fought determinedly to claim the victory with Cardiff City eventually taking home the win with two goals to Swansea’s one.

Thanks to their efforts over £2,300 was raised for Sony UK TEC’s chosen charity the Children’s Ward at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend.

This has added to the more than £100,000 the specialist factory has raised for the hospital over the past six years, with funds helping to enhance the hospital experience for children with serious health issues.

Ahead of the main match a children’s game was also held, where the children of Sony UK TEC staff could unleash their inner sports star.

Director of professional services, Gerald Kelly, said the event was another “fantastic success” which helped to raise funds for an extremely worthy cause.

He said: “This is the fourth year that our teams have laced up their boots for the annual Cardiff vs Swansea charity match and it’s proved to be another hugely successful event.

“Every year this event brings together our dedicated teams from both sites and proves to be an extremely popular and enjoyable day out for all.

“Most importantly the event has helped to raise another impressive sum for the Princess of Wales Hospital and its vital work supporting children battling serious health issues.

“As a community-focussed business, we are delighted to be able to support the work of this incredibly worthwhile cause which does so much for families across south Wales once again this year.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part and supported the event and helped to make the sporting clash the fantastic success that it was. Particular thanks to Cardiff City FC and Cardiff City FC Foundation for hosting us and for their support.”

This is the latest charity football match hosted by the Pencoed-based manufacturing facility which has supported the work of the Bridgend hospital. Last year teams raised funds by taking part in games at both Pen y Bont Football Club and Cardiff City Football Club.

In the next week, the team from Sony UK TEC will take part in another charitable football match at Cardiff City Stadium against its electronics distributor, RS Components, in a bid to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.

As part of its charity fundraising activities, Sony UK TEC team members have also taken part in charity golf days at the Celtic Manor and the Royal Porthcawl Golf Course; a 300 mile bike ride from north to south Wales; cake sales, and individual fundraising campaigns.

The fundraising events form part of the facility’s ongoing commitment to supporting and enhancing local communities across Wales.
