TAG Community Youth Centre has been voted the latest winner of St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s St Tydfil Cares Community Fund and now has £200 to spend at Wilko.

After inviting charities and community groups that are putting on activities for local children during the school summer holiday to apply for the vouchers, the centre chose three groups as finalists and the local community were invited to vote for who they would like to receive the vouchers.

Just under 600 votes were received with TAG Community Youth Centre topping the poll.

Throughout the summer, the centre will be running a wide range of free activities, including craft workshops, wigwam making, cooking classes, mad scientist sessions and face painting. The programme was developed based on ideas received from local children and the centre has a group of young volunteers who will help to run the activities. It will be using the vouchers to purchase new toys for their garden area so children can enjoy spending time outside.

Callum Palmer, from TAG Community Youth Centre, commented:

“We are thrilled and the win is great timing – we really needed outdoor toys to make the most of the great weather. Thank you to all who voted for us, we are all about the community so it’s great to win through community votes and support!”

Lee Simmonds, Centre Manager at St Tydfil Shopping Centre, added:

“Keeping the kids occupied during the six-week school holiday can be difficult so we wanted to help a local club who puts on special activities during the summer. Congratulations to TAG Community Youth Centre, we hope the children who use the centre enjoy the new toys.”
