More than 1,492 walkers strode Macmillan’s Gower Peninsula Mighty Hike on Saturday 6th July, tackling a full or half marathon distance, so far raising over £460,000 for the UK’s leading cancer charity.

Helen Hancock, Challenge Events Team Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, says: “Macmillan Cancer Support is incredibly grateful to the 1,492 people who braved the elements by taking part in the breathtakingly beautiful, but physically challenging Gower Peninsula Mighty Hike. So far, they’ve raised an incredible £460,000!

“The thousands of people who are taking part in Macmillan Mighty Hikes this year are part of something very special. Every mile hiked and penny raised at a Mighty Hike will help Macmillan to provide vital support for people living with cancer, when they need it most.

“Our waiting list is open for the Gower Peninsula Mighty Hike 2025 and there are still some places available at a number of our other Macmillan Mighty Hikes this summer and autumn, so sign up now online.”

Of the money raised, £342,300 could support Macmillan’s Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line phone service for 1 month. In this time, they could deal with more than 5,800 calls and web enquiries from people and provide a wide range of specialist information such as how to manage side effects, treatment options, living with cancer, and coping with grief.

Mighty Hikes are a series of one-day half and full marathon fundraising hikes, in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

Last year, 30,000 people walked over 450,000 miles between them to raise £11.45 million as part of the Mighty Hikes series, all with their own reasons for taking part.

Macmillan is almost entirely funded by generous public donations, and the vital funds raised through Mighty Hikes will help the charity to continue doing whatever it takes to support people living with cancer, when they need it most.
