Cardiff-based Net Zero specialist Sero has announced a new non-executive director to the board, Laura Sandys CBE. Laura will join as a lead on EDI and also bring her policy and regulatory experience to the board.

Having worked in energy transformation for 20 years, Laura works globally to drive the digitalisation of the energy system and has been focused on customer centric solutions to the transition.  She is passionate about social justice and co-chaired with The Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Caroline Lucas MP and Hilary Benn MP, the Environmental Justice Commission, and founded Powerful Women that promotes diversity in the energy sector.

Laura currently chairs The Green Alliance and the British Standards Institute Advisory Board on Net Zero, as well as being an advisor to the International Energy Agency on smart grids. She was previously a member of the UK Government’s Energy Efficiency Taskforce chairing the domestic efficiency working group that includes retrofit. In addition, Laura is on the board of SSE Transmission, Ohme Global, and Highview Power.

Laura will now join the Sero board to leverage her vast experience in the energy sector and transfer her credible skill set to help propel Sero’s Funded Retrofit Solutions within the social housing sector.

As the founder and chair of The Food Foundation, Laura is dedicated to helping lower-income households by advocating for better policies and sustainable systems. Laura’s passion for delivering better health, warmth, and well-being, for those with food and fuel insecurities, together with her energy sector experience make her a perfect fit for Sero’s mission.

Laura Sandys CBE, non-executive director at Sero, comments: “I’ve been so impressed and excited by what Sero is doing for the social housing sector. Bringing together the complex aspects of the energy system to deliver both sustainable and warm homes is a huge achievement, and I look forward to using my experience to benefit Sero and its customers even further.”

James Williams, co-founder and CEO of Sero, adds: “We’re thrilled to welcome Laura to the board! Her incredible skills and expertise align perfectly with Sero’s mission of providing warm, affordable, and healthy homes. With her impressive background in the energy sector, strong political and regulatory experience, Laura is sure to enhance our vision and support our next phase of growth.”
