Tesco closed its St Mellons superstore following a medical emergency earlier yesterday evening.

The store was temporarily closed and emergency services attended yesterday after a customer became unwell. The store has since reopened this morning.

In a customer announcement, a spokesperson for Tesco said that the store was suddenly closing and that it would not reopen for the remainder of the day:

“Due to an incident in store we will not be reopening today. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

South Wales Police was called to ambulance service colleagues with a medical emergency at the Tesco store on Crickhowell Road, St Mellons, at approximately 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, August 26).

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called yesterday, 26 August, at approximately 16:52 to reports of a medical emergency in the St Mellons area of Cardiff. We responded with two ambulances, one rapid response vehicle and were supported by Wales Air Ambulance.”

A 50-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner.
