When you apply to a job, your chances of getting that job largely depend on the quality of your resume. Even if you are highly qualified, a poorly written resume can spoil everything.

So, it’s not all about what you know; it’s how you present yourself in your resume. In this post, we are going to provide 15 tips that will help you create a great nursing resume.

1. Be specific

Read the job posting carefully and tailor your resume to the requirements of the job. Highlight the required certifications and skills. Write the resume in such a way that the recruiter is convinced of your skills and educational qualifications.

2. Be careful about length

The length of your application should be determined by factors such as the requirements of the job, and the audience. It is important to note that the recruiter will spend 30 seconds or less looking at the resume. So, make sure the information is succinct. Do not make the resume unnecessarily lengthy.

3. Highlight your success

Professional certifications, affiliations, awards and honors show that you are willing to learn and grow. Highlight your achievements, but do not boast. Just state them in a straightforward way.  You can use bullet points.

4. Indicate facility type

Facility information lets your potential employer know your specialty and level of experience. So, if you have experience in a facility program, do not forget to mention it.

5. List computer skills

The healthcare industry is getting digitalized pretty fast. These days, hospitals and clinics prefer nurses who are comfortable with technology. Therefore, your computer skills can increase your chances of landing a job. List your experiences with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR).

6. Be Keyword-friendly

Large clinics and hospitals receive a lot of applications, and therefore use software to sort through the most relevant applications. That is why using relevant keywords is a very good idea. Your resume should constantly evolve. If you have recently completed a certificate course or attended a conference, mention that.  Consider updating it even if you have not added anything to your skill set in a year or so. You, as a person, are always evolving. Make sure your resume reflects that change.
