4 Mistakes That You Should Avoid While Developing A Mobile App

Businesses are now relying heavily on mobile applications for their growth and it is not a surprise considering how popular mobile apps have become over the past few years. If you are a business owner who has decided to get a mobile app developed for his company or looking to start a business with your own mobile apps, we have got for you some tips that will help you with the app development.

During app development, people who aren’t familiar with the industry or haven’t developed an app before, make many mistakes. If you want your mobile app to be free of blunders and reach its intended objectives, here are some mistakes that you should avoid while developing a mobile app:

Ignore Target Audience

The biggest mistake most people make during app development is they completely ignore their target audience. Creating an app according to the preferences and interests of your target audience should be your top priority. Still, most people refuse to consider their target audience while developing an app and end up making a huge mistake.

To find the preferences and interests of your typical consumer, you will have to perform market research and inspect the target audience demographics. If you don’t perform market research and gather data about your target audience, you won’t be able to come up with an app that has the right features for your audience.

By neglecting your target audience, you will only select the wrong features for your mobile applications through which you won’t be able to persuade your target audience to use your app. Even if you do persuade them somehow to give your app a try, they will most likely abandon and uninstall your app because it is not built according to their preferences and desires.

For instance, if you are building a mobile game but don’t add the gameplay instructions, you won’t be able to retain users.

Overpopulate The App With Features

Sometimes people think too far ahead and they end up overpopulating their app with features, which does more harm than benefit to them. Although their motives are good and they want to provide their consumers with as many features as possible, adding up too many features can make the consumers confused and they will end up uninstalling the app.

One of the fastest growing app, ShareMe, has kept their user-interface clean and easy to use which in turn helps them stick their user base. CamScanner is another popular app which have kept their UI to the point so that even non-technical users can use the app at ease. Additionally, when too many features are added to an app, the overall design and navigation of the app are degraded and users simply uninstall the app. Whereas, offering a few but a handful of personalized features to your consumers will keep them engaged with the app and will result in increased user retention. If you wish to add new features to the app, do it slowly and gradually, in phases so that you add a new feature with every new update of your app.

Limited Pre-Launch Testing

Some people might not regard this as a mistake but it most definitely is. Because people are in a hurry to get their apps into the app stores, they don’t perform extensive pre-launch testing. When such a thing happens and an app is released before extensive pre-launch testing, several bugs and issues arise with the app and when users face these issues and bugs, they are often disappointed with the app. Therefore, along with other things, extensive pre-launch testing is very important. Rushing your app to the app stores might do more harm than good to your app.

Building The App On Several Platforms Simultaneously

Sometimes, people think of building their apps simultaneously on several platforms. They believe that by doing so, their app will be available to more users on different platforms than it would have on a single platform. Although their intent is good and they want their app to reach out to more users on multiple platforms, it poses growth and developmental difficulties.

Building the same app on multiple platforms, let’s say iOS and Android, is not only expensive but also requires constant moderation of the app development. It is highly possible that when your focus is diverted to multiple platforms, the app may not develop as you intended it to.

Always do your market research and find the popular mobile platform that your target audience uses and then launch your app on that platform, whether it is Android or iOS. Once you do that, you can then slowly move on to other platforms.
