Remembrance Day events form an important part of the annual events calendar. This year however, additional precautions are required to comply with Coronavirus Regulations and safeguards.
Events of up to 30 people can currently take place so long as rigorous infection prevention and control measures are in place.
Memorial Garden Events:
When planning an event in a Memorial Garden you need to ensure you have taken the following into account:
- A register of attendees should be maintained, that includes names, addresses, phone numbers and if possible, email addresses. This list should be prepared in advance of the event and attendance just ticked off on the day. (Completing a list on the day may encourage the sharing of pens and paper etc. and for people to get too close.)
- Persons displaying any of the following symptoms should not attend the parade.
- A high temperature 38OC or above
- A persistent cough or shortness of breath
- Loss of smell or taste
- All attendees must maintain good social distancing of at least 2 meters (approx. 6 feet). It is recommended ground markings are used to indicate where attendees, VIPs, Religious leaders and others should stand.
- A designated person should be identified to monitor Social Distancing and ensure that it is adhered to.
- Attendees at such events should not greet each other with a handshake or hug and should be reminded of this in prior communications.
- All attendees should be encouraged to wash their hands prior to attending the event and using alcohol gel as required.
- No additional persons should be allowed to congregate at the cenotaph or in close proximity on the pavement, as that would mean the event has exceeded 30 attendees.
- Even though the event is outdoors, attendees that have underlying health problems or other factors that render them more vulnerable to the virus, are recommended to adopt additional measures such as the wearing of masks or face coverings.
- It would be helpful if the organiser could send out a “rules” message to all attendees prior to the event.
- The organiser should provide a layout plan of the garden that includes measurements, so that you can determine whether there is ample room to facilitate at least 2m social distancing space between all attendees.
- The separation by a gate or fence with 30 people one side plus an un-controlled number of people the other side would mean that the event would exceed the maximum of 30 people, and there would be no record of those additional people. “Uninvited people” should be discouraged from congregating on the pavement or anywhere near.
