Ceredigion County Council and partner organisations are becoming increasingly concerned about the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the Cardigan area.
Over the last week, there has been a significant number of cases and there is evidence through the work of the Contact Tracing Team that there is widespread community transmission. It is thought that a number of ‘super spreader’ events have led to this situation.
Following a meeting of the Cardigan Incident Management Team held on Sunday, 22 November 2020, a decision has been made that the following schools will be closed from Monday, 23November 2020 and will re-open on Monday, 7 December 2020 and pupils will be taught remotely:
- Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi
- Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi
- Ysgol Gynradd Penparc
- Ysgol Gynradd Aberporth
- Ysgol Gynradd T.Llew Jones
- Ysgol Gynradd Llechryd; and
- Ysgol Gynradd Cenarth.
The Flying Start Nurseries in Cardigan and Aberporth will also be closed until Monday, 7 December 2020.
Cardigan Library will be closed until Monday, 7 December 2020. Anyone who has booked the click and collect service will be contacted by the Library Service. For any enquires please telephone 01970 633717.
These decisions have not been taken lightly but there is a need to act quickly to avoid further spread of the virus within our communities. The Council is asking that during these 14 days, that social contact is kept to a minimum.
All confirmed contacts of positive cases must remain at home for 14 days to reduce the possible spread of the virus to family, friends and the wider community. The parents of all these pupils have been contacted by the School and will also be supported by Ceredigion Contact Tracing Team.
Anyone with symptoms, no matter how small, must follow self-isolation guidance and arrange a test immediately, only leaving home to get tested. No one should go to work or leave the house if they have any symptoms. You can apply for a test on https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test or by phoning 119.
Do not hesitate to book a test if you have any symptoms – there is no need to be embarrassed about needing to get a test. But you should only get a test if you have any symptoms. A negative test one day does not mean that you won’t be positive on another day. This is why the next 14 days are critical to stop the spread of the virus. If you’ve been identified as a contact, you must still self-isolate for the full 14 days, regardless of a negative test result.
The Council is also asking the residents of Cardigan and surrounding area to strictly follow the guidelines so that we can keep each other safe:
- Keep a 2m social distance from each other when out and about;
- Wash your hands regularly;
- Limit your social contact;
- Work from home wherever possible;
- Wear a face mask in indoor public places, shops and on public transport.
Usual COVID-19 symptoms are as follows, but please be vigilant of any other changes in your health:
- a high temperature
- a new continuous cough
- a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.
