A temporary COVID-19 Mobile Testing Unit has been set-up in Grangetown in response to a 75 percent rise in case numbers across Cardiff in the past week.
Located in the public car park on Jim Driscoll Way, the temporary walk-through testing unit is open between 9am and 3pm, on the following days:
- Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th December
- Wednesday 16th to Friday 18th December
- Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th December
- Tuesday 29th to Thursday 31st December
- Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th January
It is available for local residents showing COVID-19 symptoms to access bybooking an appointment,either by calling 119 or visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test online. Members of the public visiting the unit without an appointment will not be tested.
The Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas, said: “As we are seeing in Wales in general, cases are increasing across Cardiff, but particularly in the south west corner of the city, including Grangetown.
“We have seen the value of effective testing throughout the pandemic, and the Mobile Testing Unit has been deployed in Cardiff on other occasions before now, through a partnership between the local authority, Cardiff & Vale Health Board and Public Health Wales.
“With this targeted approach to testing, we are able to build a clear picture of the causes of the spread of infection in the area, and pinpoint any locations that are a particular cause for concern.
“If you live in the area, and you are showing any one of the three COVID-19 symptoms – new and persistent cough; a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste; a high temperature – I would ask that you make a booking at the new Mobile Testing Unit straightaway.”
Fiona Kinghorn, Executive Director for Public Health for Cardiff and the Vale, said: “There has been a significant increase in cases amongst all age groups across Cardiff over the past week. It is therefore vitally important that anyone who is showing symptoms of coronavirus self isolates and books a test immediately. This is how we can stop the spread of the virus with all of us playing a part in protecting our families, our neighbours and our local communities.”
