The subject of administering drugs to animals is a very sensitive topic for many pet owners. This is a major issue as they seek the best way to ensure that their felines, canines, horses, exotic animals, or livestock are in the right shape mentally and physically.

But beyond using the right drug, the dosage has to be appropriate. This is because it can be ineffective if it is too little, and can complicate things if it is too much.

In this article, we will discuss factors revolving around how CBD oil should be administered on cats, dogs, and other animals. So, you should keep reading if you are a pet owner or lover as we discuss this relevant topic.

But before then, there are certain things you might want to know about CBD and using it on animals. You get the necessary background information in this article.

Knowing the Right CBD Oil Dosage for Your Dog

Cannabidiol products are effective and there are tons of experiences to prove this. However, getting the right dosage is important in enjoying the benefits of CBD oil and other Cannabidiol products. In light of this, below are some guidelines to help you administer the right dosage:

The Physical or Mental Health Condition

For both humans and animals, our bodies need time to adjust to changes made to diet and lifestyle in general. As a result, it is sometimes best to avoid abrupt changes. It is therefore in the best interest of the body that changes are slowly and strategically introduced.

On this note, we strongly advise that CBD oil and other Cannabidiol products be introduced gradually. Start systematically with small doses. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can thereafter increase the dose.

However, this rule does not apply to every situation. This is since some health conditions are severe and need heavy doses at a go. Examples can be seen with conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and many others.

Except when dealing with such severe complications, you should stick to the small to large dose rule.

    Dosage Instruction on Label

The ideal drug should have detailed instructions on the required dosage. You should therefore make it a point of duty to check and adhere to the guidelines written on the label. To get CBD oil and other Cannabidiol drugs that meet this standard, you can go to store either online or offline.

This is except your veterinarian has given a contrary dosage instruction in light of the condition your pet is faced with. Except for this, your dosage plan should be guided by the description on the product’s label by the manufacturer.

And very important, do not generalize a dosage plan. This is a wrong way to go about these things. The reason is that CBD oil produced by various companies has different compositions and concentrations.

As a result, the chances of getting things right by using a different dosage plan for a different product is highly unlikely.

    Pets Are not Humans

Regardless of the level of intimacy between you and your pet, you have clear-cut differences and this is something you must respect while placing your pet on any drug.

Cannabidiol oil and other Cannabidiol products are beneficial to both humans and animals. However, there are certain differences in the products specially formulated to meet the needs of humans and animals.

As a result, you should not administer human formulated CBD oil to your pet. Also, do not use the human dosage as a yardstick for administering this drug to your pet.

    Talk to Your Veterinarian

You are not supposed to place your pet on CBD oil without the consent of your veterinarian. S/he is in the best position to tell you if using Cannabidiol products for your pet is ideal.

This is because s/he has a detailed understanding of your animal’s physical and/or mental health troubles and can decide if CBD is a good option.

Also, there is the issue of drug interaction. This simply means that the use of Cannabidiol must not cause complications because of previous medications that were consumed.

Your veterinarian is in the best position to determine if CBD is suitable in this regard. This is apparently because of his/her skill and experience.

Body Size Is a Major Factor

There are so many instances your pet’s body size is central to making key decisions. For instance, large breed dogs are expected to be fed more food than small or toy breed dogs.

In the same vein, your pet’s body size highly impacts the dosage plan that will be administered. Just as an example, a drug may recommend about half a milligram for every 3 pounds. If you then have a dog that weighs 30 pounds, you will have to administer about 10 milligrams of CBD oil.

Every drop of the oil has a defined amount of the Cannabidiol compound and you are to administer based on the concentration per drop and your pet’s weight.

    Conclusion

Considering the several experiences of pet parents and human users, the effectiveness of CBD oil and other Cannabidiol products is not up for questions. It is no doubt an effective treatment option for many ailments.

However, you have to use the right dosage to get the best of this drug. On this note, we have touched upon several things to consider when figuring out the right dosage plan.

We hope that you take them seriously and see how your pet overcomes the physical and/or mental health challenge(s) s/he is facing.
