Tenovus Cancer Care receives significant donation from Bristol Myers Squibb to help support services for cancer patients.

Following a successful application for funding, Tenovus Cancer Care has received a significant and unrestricted donation of £150,000 from pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb. The charity’s application focused on the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on people affected by cancer and the value of its Mobile Support Units in providing flexible, clinical space to help support patients.

The charity highlighted the role their Mobile Support Units could play in addressing capacity issues within the NHS, while their successful application also drew attention to the units’ potential to assist with the recovery of cancer services in Wales in 2021.

The donation received by the charity will be used to help maximise the scope and value of the Mobile Support Unit service for cancer patients. The charity also plans to use some of the donation to help with its wider support services.

Chief Executive of Tenovus Cancer Care, Judi Rhys MBE said: “This generous donation from Bristol Myers Squibb will make an enormous difference. The pandemic has had a huge impact on people affected by cancer, with thousands fewer being sent for cancer tests or starting treatment since March. These people need our help and support. And with Covid-19 having a catastrophic impact on our finances, this funding is more important than ever”.

Despite the many and ongoing challenges resulting from the pandemic, Tenovus Cancer Care has continued to support people through a range of services, available free of charge, for anyone affected by cancer. These include a Support Line (0808 808 1010), as well as benefits advice for those struggling with the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis.
