Cardiff and Vale College has become one of the latest education institutions to be awarded a Gold CyberFirst School Award for its first-rate cyber security teaching.

The CyberFirst Schools programme is run by the National Cyber Security Centre, part of GCHQ. The programme recognises schools and colleges that can demonstrate a commitment to inspiring the latest generation of cyber security experts and bridging to cyber skills gap.

CyberFirst Schools offer a range of activities to engage students, such as coding clubs and enrichment activities. CAVC has long recognised the importance of cyber security courses across all industries, and former Cyber Security student Kyle Woodward represented the UK at the last WorldSkills Final in Russia in 2019.

Cardiff and Vale College Vice Principal Emil Evans said: “We are delighted that Cardiff and Vale College has achieved CyberFirst’s Gold Award in its recent assessment of the College’s provision. Not only is this testament to the hard work and dedication of our Computing Department but reflects the whole college’s vision of the importance of Cyber Security as an exciting and vital industry for our learners to aspire to work within.

“In addition, we believe the College’s Gold Award status reflects our commitment to continuing to develop strong working relationships with our partners within the CardiffCapital Region and will provide us with the platform and inspiration to continue to grow and offer a cutting edge Cyber Security curriculum at CAVC.”
