Pillgwenlly Millennium Trust Ltd, a non-profit organisation in Wales, has been awarded a grant by the KFC Foundation in its latest round of national funding.
The Pill Millennium Centre in Newport is the hub for the local community. It is a sports and recreation centre which hosts indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, martial arts clubs, dance, and exercise classes, as well as providing alternative education for young people.
With its grant from the KFC Foundation, The Pill Millenium Centre will fund creative music sessions to engage young people in activities with a useful purpose. These sessions will aim to build confidence for the young people involved by giving them opportunities to express themselves through lyric writing, rapping whilst performing in front of their peers.
All of this will provide life skills that will help young people gain future employment and become active members of the local community.
In a year where there has been a significant increase in demand for local youth services to help young people navigate the challenges of the pandemic, non-profit and community organisations have faced one of the hardest years of funding on record.
Since 2015, the KFC Foundation has existed to support and provide grants to grassroots organisations that empower young people across the UK, and that help them to fulfil their potential and build a positive future.
In the last six years, the KFC Foundation has paid out grants and donations totalling £6.55 million to partner organisations across the country and supported nearly 159,000 young people through local charity partnerships in 2018-19 alone.

Non-profits have been receiving support from us for a number of years but the difficulties they have had to face this year are unique. Recipients of our most recent funding have had a particularly tough year so we hope our grants will help them keep up their incredible work. We’re all about fuelling the potential of young people at the KFC Foundation and always want to have a positive impact on the local area.”

The work we do has a big impact on those directly involved as well as the local area and receiving a grant from the KFC Foundation will allow us to keep helping young people. The application process was simple, and we’d recommend other organisations considering it to give it a go.”
The grant programme is for registered charities, registered community interest companies, unincorporated clubs or associations or unregistered charities with a turnover of less than £300,000.
