Orbis Education and Care has appointed Kris Davies in a new role for the organisation, as its Head of Academy Living.

Orbis is one of the UK’s leading providers of specialist schools and homes, supporting children and adults with complex needs associated with autism.

Kris’ new role will see the organisation build on its existing work to create personal development pathways for young people and adults to identify and progress in vocational and employment opportunities.

Kris, from Cardiff, said: “People with autism and learning disabilities should have the same opportunities in life as us all, and here at Academy Living our mission is just that.”

“It’s so important that people with autism and associated needs are recognised as being active members of their communities; not only does this help raise awareness and understanding of this hidden disability but crucially it also improves the person’s quality of life.”

“I love pushing boundaries in order to promote equal opportunities for the people we support. Academy Living sees the community as the richest source of learning there is and we are now seeing more of our adults in voluntary or employment placements than ever.” Kris added.

“Academy Living ensures that young people and adults build their own personal development pathways. Working together, we identify their inherent strengths and interests, and this opens up a wide variety of opportunities.”

Originally from Tredegar, Kris will draw on his background in Occupational Therapy and as a Behaviour Specialist to identify further opportunities for learning and personal development for individuals with autism and a learning disability.

Those supported by the initiative are already working in garden centres, attending vocational courses, attending job interviews and working at the organisation’s high street branches of The Orb,in Porth, and  Morriston, Swansea, all thanks to Kris.

Speaking of his appointment, CEO of Orbis Education and Care, Suzanne Lawrence, said: “Academy Living has already become a progressive multi-faceted initiative that identifies the inherent skills and interests of those we support, and seeks to progress them as far as possible.

“Through Kris’ ongoing dedication, it is an initiative which will continue to be embedded in our homes, at our high street branches of The Orb and in the community, and it is one which incorporates industry-recognised accreditations to help adults to kick-start their CVs.”

“It is a delight to welcome Kris into this new role as Head of Academy Living. His passion and commitment will continue to help the people we support to contribute further to their local communities which are so supportive of them in return.”
