A country music charity event organised by husband and wife duo Sherri and Rick Naylor from Llanfallteg, has raised £4,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Old Mill Foundation.

The sold-out musical weekend fundraiser was held at The Snooty Fox in Martletwy near Narberth. Both evenings featured Rick and Sherri who were joined by Richard Howell on pedal steel guitar and supported by friends Huw Evans and Billy Ware.

The couple were keen to raise money to help people in Wales living with cancer after Rick was diagnosed last year with stage 4 lung cancer. Rick has received practical information and direct support from the charities, and the couple were eager to give back to the charities for the help they are receiving.

Speaking about the support event generated, Sherri Naylor, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Debbie and Kevin at The Snooty Fox, Richard Howell, Huw Evans, Billy and Cherril Ware, Kath and Tommy Reynolds and Tracey and Rob for their contribution in making the recent charity country music event possible. Also, a huge thank you to all who supported by attending or by sending donations.”

Talking about the impact that the £2,050 donation to Macmillan will have, Macmillan Relationship Fundraising Manager, Sue Reece, said: “We’d like to say a big thanks to Sherri and Rick and everyone who supported them. This is a truly amazing total. The money raised would pay for a Macmillan Nurse for over 80 hours helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical, and emotional support.”

The Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (open seven days a week) has specially trained nurses and cancer information specialists who can provide information and advice, as well as emotional support, to help people with cancer cope with the additional strain of the coronavirus pandemic.
