This December, Wrexham based Hospice, Nightingale House is aiming to fill their rooms and corridors with extra Christmas cheer this festive season.
Nightingale House provide support and care 365 days a year. Over the Christmas period the hospice team always add extra ‘sparkle’ to their care to ensure all patients and families using their services during that time have the best possible Christmas at a very difficult time, however they need your help to do so.
Nightingale House is asking members of the community to be part of their lottery with the aim of signing up enough new members to make Christmas extra special this year by covering the £9,972 hospice running costs for Christmas Day. For every new member who joins, a special lottery ball will be added to a giant Christmas bauble which will be on display in Caffi Cwtch, and the hospice is hoping to fill it as high as possible.
Local companies are also being asked to get involved by purchasing a special Business Ball. In exchange for joining the lottery for one year, their company name and logo will be displayed on the supporter board during December.
Lynne Swinnerton, Managing Director of Lowani Travel, was the first to buy two Business Balls. Lynne tells us why she wanted to get involved:
‘My mum was admitted to Nightingale House for symptom management but sadly she deteriorated very quickly and passed away just a couple of weeks later. My son was only nine at the time and I was so worried about the effect that my regular absence at home would have on him. Mum being in the hospice meant that I had peace of mind that she was being kept safe, out of pain and continuously monitored whilst I spent a few hours being a wife and mum. I could do the school run and know that she was being cared for – I was able to go back to being a mum but also a daughter again. The nurses on the ward were angels. They treated mum with immense kindness and were also a huge support to me.
The hospice gave me the gift of quality time with my mum. We could sit and watch Strictly or look out on the beautiful gardens and chat. I gifted mums lovely plant pots and bird table from her home to Nightingale House as I wanted others to enjoy them as much as she had for many years before. A couple of her gorgeous pots were thoughtfully placed outside of her hospice room patio door too on the day she passed away.
Over the last eight years, I have donated to a nominated charity each year in lieu of sending Christmas cards to clients and friends. The Help Pay for Christmas Day campaign is the perfect way to continue supporting the hospice and the families finding themselves in a similar situation to mine over the festive season. I am delighted to be the first to buy a Business Ball and I hope that many other companies and supporters will get involved. Your support really will make such a difference.’
