Porthcawl’s tourist land train is welcoming the Steelworks Santa on board for a magical festive event for families to enjoy.

The special three-day event will provide a festive family experience during the Christmas period. Once safely onboard Lucie the Porthcawl Land Train, the 40-minute ‘Santa Express’ ride will offer carol singing, a meet and greet with Santa, a chance to take photos with him, and a festive treat to take home. Children will also receive a gift, free activity pack, and certificate from Santa.

The Family Claus will be joining steelworks Santa, with Mrs Claus leading some traditional carol singing and Chief Elf, Candy Cane, spreading her own brand of Christmas Cheer.

In preparation for the event, Lucie the Land Train, operated by homelessness charity Emmaus South Wales, has undergone a festive makeover, and invited children from Newton Primary School on Thursday 9 December to enjoy the Santa Express trial run.

Steelworks Santa aka Porthcawl local, Allan Evans, attends Christmas events to help raise money for charities, and said:

“I’m delighted to be working with Emmaus South Wales to offer families a special Santa experience with traditional carol singing, festive treats, and photo opportunities, all while enjoying Porthcawl’s seaside scenery and supporting three good causes at the same time!”

Tickets cost £11 per person with a portion from each ticket split between Steelworks Santa’s chosen charities; Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and GIST Cancer UK. The remaining proceeds will go to Emmaus South Wales, a charity that supports people out of homelessness.

Jemma Wray, Chief Executive at Emmaus South Wales, said:

“We’re so excited to run our Santa Express! Porthcawl locals have been so supportive of us this year with the launch of Lucie the Porthcawl Land Train, and we wanted to offer a special event where everyone can enjoy festive activities together. Steelworks Santa and Family Claus will provide a magical time for children and adults alike, with all ticket proceeds going to three charities. For anyone attending, don’t forget to charge your phones and cameras for photos!”

The Santa Express will run on Monday 20, Tuesday 21, and Thursday 23 December from 10am until 4pm starting and finishing at the land train stop, Eastern Promenade.

Tickets must be purchased in advance, with a limited number available. To book your experience, visit www.emmaus.org.uk/south-wales/event/santa-express
