Welsh rugby legend Scott Quinnell is coming out of retirement to join the world’s most popular rugby podcast The Good, The Bad And The Rugby as it heads out on tour.

Joining the podcast’s regular hosts England heroes James Haskell and Mike Tindall, Scott Quinnell will be on the panel for The Good, The Bad And The Rugby – LIVE when it comes to St David’s Hall, on Wednesday, May 4.

The LIVE tour will be the first ever outing for the hit podcast which, since launching in summer 2020, has grown to become the UK’s top sporting podcast, with more than 3million listeners and 20million-plus viewers online.

Speaking about Scott’s addition to the line-up for Cardiff, Mike Tindall said: “Scott is an absolute legend of Welsh rugby and we’ve lined up on the pitch as well as the golf course more recently. We’re delighted to have him on board for The Good, The Bad And The Rugby – LIVE in Cardiff.”

Scott comes from a real rugby family – son of Welsh international Derek Quinnell, nephew of Barry John and brothers Craig and Gavin were both professional players too. He made his name at Llanelli, making 146 appearances between 1990 and 1994, before switching codes to rugby league and joining Wigan for two seasons. Making his return to union with Richmond in 1996, he later returned to Llanelli – with the Scarlets, where he played until retirement in 2005. During Scott’s 52 capped appearances for Wales, he was part of a Welsh team which won eight straight games running into the 1999 World Cup, then reaching the quarter final. Since retirement, he’s been a regular pundit for Sky Sports’ rugby broadcasting, and runs a smallholding near Usk.

James Haskell added: “Having Scott join us in Cardiff is an honour – I know a great flanker when I see one and I’m glad I didn’t have to front up to him on the pitch. Scott’s a fantastic addition to the squad. It’s going to be a great night.”

Joining James and Mike for the full tour, will be their podcast co-host former Sky Sports’ rugby presenter Alex Payne – as they take to the stage to recreate their on-air banter with a full line-up of guests to be announced.

Alex said: “It’s a pleasure to bring James and Mike to the table each week, when we sit and put the world to rights – and what better way to celebrate that, than by taking it out on tour and bringing along a whole host of special guests?”

The Good, The Bad And The Rugby – LIVE promises to recreate the magic of the podcast, which features rugby chat with some of the game’s biggest stars, as well as wider sporting and pop-culture talking points to appeal to a broad range of listeners.

Fans can look forward to The Good (Alex), The Bad (James) And The Rugby (Mike) sharing tales from on and off the pitch in what promises to be a night filled with surprises and laughter, as well as glimpses into each of the men’s lives – like the time Mike announced his son’s dramatic birth on the bathroom floor.

Ben Hatton, Director of Theatre Touring for promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “The Good, The Bad And The Rugbypodcast was a must-listen hit for sports fans in 2020, and with season two currently making a similar impact, we are excited for James, Mike and Alex to get out on the road to meet their fans across the country.”
