Cardiff & Vale Health Charity are delighted to announce a fantastic £12,995 was raised through the first Shine Bright Appeal which saw nine local businesses sponsor stars on the University Hospital of Wales building throughout Christmas.

On Monday 29th November 2021, a light up event was held at the Lakeside area of University Hospital of Wales where pupils from Howells School Choir and Birchgrove Primary School sang before the big countdown took place. Amongst the nine stars sponsored by local businesses, a commemorative angel shined brightly in remembrance of all loved ones lost in 2021.

Georgina Burke, Senior Fundraiser at Cardiff & Vale Health Charity said, “We’re beyond thrilled to have raised such a phenomenal amount at our first ever Shine Bright event, and we know we couldn’t have done it without a lot of help from our sponsors. We’d like to give a big thanks to our main sponsor, Shield Services, for going above and beyond with our Christmas Campaign and partaking in the light switch on, and to Floodlight Electrical for installing the stars and donating some of their services for free.

“We’d also like to thank our large star sponsors, Genmed, Lorne Stewart, MSS Group, Poppi Furniture, and Admiral, as well as our medium star sponsors, Eversheds, Waterless, and Bad Wolf.

“As well as our stars on University Hospital of Wales, we also hosted a virtual platform where individuals could donate to a star in memory of a loved one, and write a personalised message. We’re truly grateful to everyone who got involved.

“We’re excited to share that the Shine Bright Appeal will return this year, both bigger and better! As well as stars at the University Hospital of Wales building, we’ll also be offering the chance to sponsor stars at University Hospital Llandough for patients, staff and the local community to enjoy. We expect this to be very popular again, so if you’d like to be a part of the campaign this year, please get in touch via email at [email protected].”

All monies raised from the Shine Bright Appeal will be reinvested into patient care, treatment, and facilities across the Health Board over and above what’s usually provided. This also includes the creation of a new wellbeing park at Our Health Meadow to improve mental and physical health at University Hospital Llandough.
