Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has this week (7 March) launched a Staff and Learner Wellbeing Strategy to put health and wellbeing at the heart of all aspects of college life.

The strategy builds upon the Grŵp’s extensive wellbeing support and services, rated as ‘excellent’ by Estyn. It was developed in close partnership with union representatives, staff and students across college campuses.

New staff and learner steering groups have been established to help deliver the Strategy. Using feedback from a range of sources such as the Learner ‘I’m OK’ survey and staff surveys, the steering groups have developed action plans that will enhance existing wellbeing initiatives across the Grŵp.

Representatives from staff unions Unison, NEU, UCU and UCAC, as well as the Grŵp’s FE and HE Student Union, sit on the steering groups, working with the Grŵp to ensure that the views of staff and learners are heard, and that effective action is taken to improve all aspects of wellbeing.

The Wellbeing Strategy is aimed at holistically promoting a healthy learning and environment across the Grŵp by putting learner and staff wellbeing at the heart of policies, procedures and services.

There are many successful initiatives already in place, including the GLLM Lles/Wellbeing Hwb launched last year, the Active Ambassadors programme, Period Dignity campaign, face-to-face and virtual counselling and mentor support, the GLLM Wellbeing Calendar as well as a variety of other tools, resources and services which are available to all staff and students.

James Nelson, Executive Director for Academic Services at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai said: “The launch of our new Wellbeing Strategy comes at a time when mental, physical, emotional and social wellbeing is more important than ever following the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have established a track record of providing excellent personalised support. Through the delivery of this Strategy, we will further enhance opportunities and support to enable our staff and learners to strengthen their resilience and self-care, reach their full potential and achieve positive wellbeing.”

He added: “We’re committed to creating a healthy learning and working environment where every member of our community can thrive. In doing so, we recognise that an organisational wide approach to delivering exceptional health and wellbeing support for all staff and learners is paramount.

“We will continue to work closely with our learners, staff and the wider community to ensure that supporting positive health and wellbeing is integral to everything we do.”
