An event promoting jobs in the domiciliary care sector has been held in Swansea.
Organisations running employment support and training programmes have linked-up with care providers to improve the recruitment process.
They came together at the event which was organised by Swansea Working and Partner Beyond Bricks and Mortar, an employability service run by Swansea Council and its partners to help people looking for jobs access the support that is most relevant to them.
Care providers gave a presentation outlining the work they do and the opportunities that exist so that those running employment programmes could pass on a better picture to their clients.
This included information about what it is like to work in the sector, shift patterns, pay and conditions, details about the training that is provided and the avenues for career progression.
Around 50 practitioners attended the day at the Grand Theatre and a follow-up event focused on job seekers and potential recruits will take place in the autumn.
Cllr Mary Sherwood, Swansea Council’s joint Cabinet Member for Better Communities, said:
“There are many rewarding opportunities within the domiciliary care sector and with an ever ageing population it is a sector that is only going to grow.
“This was a great way for those running employment support and training programmes to gain a better understanding of the sector and for care providers to find out more about potential recruits that are out there.
“I’m sure both will have come away with a better understanding of what the other does and this will only improve the recruitment process.”
Amanda Lince from Crosshands Homes Services said:
“Getting the right message across is vital if we are to get the right people to the right job.”
Lynda Jardine, Achieving Change through Employment Case Officer, added:
“It was a very useful event packed with information that will benefit our participants.”
