Cardiff and Vale College has been awarded for its commitment to preparing its students for the world of work.

The College has achieved the Careers Wales Mark. The award is designed to recognise a commitment to continuous quality improvement in educational institutions to meet the Welsh Government’s requirements set out in the Careers and World of Work: a framework for 11 to 19-year-olds.

Careers and World of Work is designed to equip young people with the skills they will need in order to manage their working life whether they leave education at 16, 18 or 21. It highlights the importance of the most up-to-date knowledge and understanding of working practices so that people can make effective career choices.

The College offers a range of options to prepare its learners for the world of work, including the Career Ready programme, work placements and mentoring, CV building and careers advice and student clubs. Careers Advisors provide a complete progression support service and the Enterprise team offers guidance and support to young entrepreneurs who want to start up their own businesses.

CAVC Deputy Principal Sharon James said:

“We are delighted to achieve the Careers Wales Mark because at Cardiff and Vale College we don’t want to be a qualifications factory that churns out people with the right pieces of paper but no idea of the world of work. We would rather work hard to be a skills machine, producing employable young people with enough initiative and entrepreneurial talent to add immediate value to any employer.”

Nikki Lawrence, Chief Executive at Careers Wales said:

“This is an excellent achievement and a clear demonstration that learners in Cardiff and Vale College are receiving the support they need to help them effectively research their future work and learning pathways and make informed career decisions.

“Receiving a Careers Wales Mark demonstrates that the College is dedicated to the highest possible standard of teaching and gives its pupils valuable skills for the future.”
