Staff and volunteers at a Swansea charity have received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centre in the city.

The donation was made to Talking Hands, a club for young children and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing. Based in the Swansea Centre for Deaf People, the charity operates across Wales and runs a programme of activities which promote the learning and development of new skills as well as fun.

For some of the young adults it supports, the club provides a place for social events and meet-ups. Weekly sessions for parents and toddlers who are deaf or deaf parents of hearing children also take place, offering further support for caregivers and the younger age group.

The donation from Amazon Swansea will go towards the charity’s Signathon fundraiser to help continue the work with families and caregivers.

Christopher Law, General Manager at Amazon in Swansea, said:

“Talking Hands is a brilliant organisation supporting families and individuals in our community, while also creating opportunities for young people’s development and learning. We are pleased to lend the staff and volunteers a helping hand with this donation.”

Melanie Broad, who works at Amazon in Swansea and nominated the charity for this donation, added:

“I’m so glad we are able to support this charity. Talking Hands’ work in our community and across Wales is fantastic, and the support and programme of activities offered is invaluable for those in the deaf community.”

Helen Robins-Talbot, from Talking Hands, added:

“We are delighted to receive this donation from Amazon. This will allow us to continue to offer support and create experiences for young people who are deaf or hard of hearing and also for their families. Thank you to Christopher and the Amazon team for the support.”

The donation to Talking Hands was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
