Good weather and calm seas have helped Porthcawl’s all-new sea defences to make great progress during the summer heatwave.
More than 116 of the 185 new terraces have been set in place and the £3m project is running according to schedule.
Intended to protect 260 seafront properties and businesses from flooding and coastal erosion, the £3m initiative is replacing ageing sea defences at the town’s famous ‘tarmac beach’.
When complete, the terraces will be joined by a sand-coloured hard surface to create an attractive, all-new look for the popular location.

Residents and visitors will be able to find out more and view plans, photographs and an artist’s impression of the completed scheme at a drop-in session in the Grand Pavilion on Tuesday 21 August.
The session, which has been organised by contractor Alun Griffiths, will take place between 4pm – 7pm and will include an opportunity to ask questions about the next stages of the complicated marine engineering project.
It will also feature details about arrangements that are being put in place for the annual Elvis festival in September.
There is still a great deal of complicated work to be done before the project is complete, but the new sea defences are making fantastic progress.
