On Friday 11 November and Sunday 13 November, Cardiff Bus will be offering free travel to both serving military personnel and military veterans as a thank you for their service.

As the country prepares to come together to pay their respects and give thanks to those who have served our country, the bus operator will join the nation in observing a two-minute silence, along with offering free travel across its services on Armistice Day and Remembrance

Sunday to all those wearing medals or a veteran’s badge, or those in uniform with military ID.

Cardiff Bus asks customers planning on travelling over Remembrance weekend to plan their journeys ahead of time due to diversions that will be in place on Sunday 13 November.

Service 30 will start and end journeys at Friars Walk bus station in Newport between 07:00 and 12:30. Additionally, a section of Newport Road will be closed at Old St Mellons between 12:00 and 12:15 and buses will divert via Llaneirwg Way, Greenway Road and New Road in both directions.

Service 45 will divert between 10:45 and 11:45 due to the part closure of Wentloog Road.  During this time, buses will divert via New Road and Greenway Road in both directions, omitting Rumney Hill, Wentloog Road, Cae Glas Road, Nevin Crescent and Rhyl Road.

Diversions will be in place on service 63 due to a Remembrance event in Radyr.  Buses will only travel as far as Danescourt Way until 13:30 and will not serve Radyr, Pentyrch or Creigiau.

Gareth Stevens, Commercial Director of Cardiff Bus, said: “We are extremely proud to be able to provide free travel for our veterans and serving military personnel this Remembrance weekend. It is an honour to welcome them onboard our buses, and the entire staff at Cardiff Bus would like to say thank you for their bravery and sacrifice.

“We ask that customers plan their journey ahead of time this Sunday with journeys set to be busy and diversions will be in place as a result of road closures for Remembrance events.

“We apologise for any inconvenience these diversions may cause and we would encourage all our customers to check details before travelling.”
