Despite the ongoing challenges independent traders in Wales have faced, such as the impact of the pandemic and the current cost-of-living crisis, Corp Market is celebrating one year of being home to some of Cardiff’s favourite independent businesses. In its first year, Corp Market has successfully retained all the small businesses it started the journey with, testament to the fantastic small business space that has been created.

On Friday 19th November 2021, the pub formerly known as The Corporation in Canton – which dates back to 1889 – reopened its doors after 6 years of being vacant. Under its new name, Corp Market, a brand-new hub for local independent traders was created, with a bar and coffee shop at the centre of the space. The venture, which was developed with community and sustainability in mind, has built upon the success of Cardiff’s hugely successful Corporation Yard.

Jahan Abedi, Co-Owner of Corp Market which is part of The Chameleon Group, commented: “Cardiff’s independent business scene is extremely vibrant and is amongst the best things our city has to offer. When we created Corp Market we wanted to create a space with a real sense of community that showcases some of Cardiff’s most loved independent traders. One year on, I definitely think we have achieved this.”

Corp Market is currently the permanent home for; Wine Fiend, by Dean Euden, Little Green Stores, by Binki Rees, The Barber Room, by Sofia Nigro, Khione Deli, by Gloria Arcerito, The Sho Gallery and Frankincense and Purr by Emily Michael, Shelflife, by Rosie Smith, Pepe Cactus, by Pepe Ariztisabal, Heads Above the Waves, by Si Martin, Twin Made, by Charlotte Peacock, and Gem Palace, by Sean Kerr.

“Thank you to each and every one of the traders that bring Corp Market to life, and to the people of Cardiff for supporting local. We’re all extremely proud of what we have created and are excited to see what the next year brings,” added Kevin Gracias, Corp Market Partner.

On Friday 18th November, traders and the public gathered to celebrate the success of Corp Market and Cardiff’s independent business scene.
