A social worker from Ceredigion has been recognised for Promoting Excellence in Services for Children and Young People during the Wales Care Awards 2022 held in Cardiff.

Richard Bellingham, 47 from Llanon, works as a key worker and senior practitioner in the children’s disability team for Ceredigion County Council.

He cares for children under the age of 18 and was nominated for the award by a parent of a child he cares for.

The service works with disabled children and young people to promote their wellbeing, planning alongside parents and carers to support development of independence and resilience, and offering support and signposting based on each child’s needs.

On receiving the silver award for Promoting Excellence in Services for Children and Young People, Richard Bellingham said: “It was a really nice surprise to find out I’d been nominated for an award by one of the families I’ve worked with over the years. It’s lovely to be held in such high regard. I love my job and find it very rewarding.”

Councillor Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Porth Cynnal – Specialist Through Age Services, said: “Many congratulations to Richard on receiving this prestigious award. We are grateful for the hard work and commitment shown by social workers like Richard, who always go the extra mile to care for others, and especially by adapting in challenging times. Congratulations Richard.”
