It is with great sadness that the family announce that Sandra passed away on January 8th 2023 at the Forge Care Home.

While working in M&S, Sandra met Len after he dropped a tray of jellies while looking at her. Len’s mother and sister soon followed to see if she was ‘good enough’ for their son and brother. Sandra enjoyed jobs working in The Bird Cage Club, Howells, the pub, Merrett’s Bakery, Tesco, and Children’s World, making friends with colleagues wherever she went.

Marigolds in the garden. Daffodils in vases. Sandra always seemed to get bunches of flowers to live longer than anyone else could. When people used to ask her how, she would reply with, ‘I just talk to them every day and ensure I give them fresh water every day’. Something to brighten her day and for her to enjoy.

Knitting jackets, bonnets, and bootees for the new family arrivals. Wool toys and stockings to keep and sell at Willowbrook School fayre. Now treasured possessions. Hours of creating stockings and wrapping chocolate bars and knitted Santa’s that she lovingly created for the Christmas parties at Wentloog Court.

Sandra never forgot a birthday or anniversary. In fact, when asked what she would like for a gift for Christmas, Mother’s Day or a birthday, she would reply with, “I prefer a nice card to a present”. Though she did enjoy a slice of granddaughter Chloe’s Victoria sponge cake. Every year, ensuring she had all her birthday cards were bought in December the year before. Then all she would need to do is go and collect what card she needed from the draw. Spending hours writing out Birthday card lists and Christmas card lists to ensure no one was missed out. Spending time with Len, writing cards to be sent across the world.

Bus rides into town, and walking to the local shops, coming back with sweets and a magazine for the grandchildren. Going to Shaws the Drapers in Llanrumney, on the bus to pick up wool for her latest creations.

Pocket money in small brown envelopes all individually named, ensuring no one was left out.

Afternoon TV viewing, old movies, and murder mysteries. Regularly making Len change the channel if Titanic, Zorro, Walker Texas Ranger or NCIS was on the television. Waking up from naps and wondering who had turned off the television.

Singing and dancing to Michael Ball, Sandra loved him. Sandra enjoyed singing to many old songs that played in adverts on the television.

Ill health meant the end of Sandra working, a massive blow, but more family time. Something that was so important to Sandra. When she felt up to it, she always enjoyed seeing family members when they visited. Spending those precious moments with family was so important to her. She could retell many stories from over the years of different events and things that happened with different family members.

Sandra will be greatly missed by all. Fond memories have been created throughout her 82 years.

Formerly at Wentloog Court Rumney. Beloved wife to Len for 62 years, Mother to Stephen, Mark and Vincent. Loved by grandchildren Rhian, Rhys, Sophie, Chloe, Matthew. Great grandchildren Cody, Cerys, Olivia, and Dylan. Daughter in laws Carol and Karen.

Funeral Service to be held at the Wenallt Chapel Thornhill at 10.15am on January 25th 2023. Congregation to wear attire of choice. No flowers but donations in lieu to the British Heart Foundation.

Enquiries to Coles Funeral Directors Rumney 02920797516.
