Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd will once again host Teddy Bears’ Picnic on Friday 23rd June from 10am – 2pm.

This lovely free event is aimed at nurseries, schools, families, and carers with children aged five and under.

While the children enjoy all the activities such as the mini funfair, bouncy castle, arts, crafts and games, adults can pick up essential information on services available to them in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

This year there will be a performance area featuring Martyn Geraint, one of Wales’ best known children’s entertainers and Cardboard City will be joining the event for the first time ever! Here, children will be able to get hands on making play villages and shops out of cardboard.

Each of the stalls at the event offer information specifically for families and carers with young children, with interactive activities to showcase the work they do.

Here’s just a few of the teams attending:

    • School Admissions: Find out how and when to apply for school places and play the sunny patch turtle game.
    • Childcare Offer Team: Find out about the 30 hours of funded childcare available in RCT and plant seeds and make teddy bear leaf collages.
    • Sport RCT: Come and try out balance bikes and find out info on activities available for children in RCT.
    • Designed to Smile: Meet Dewi the Dragon mascot, pick up free toothbrushes and dental advice for children.
    • Parenting Support Team: Find out how you can access support while the kids enjoy sand play and Incy Wincy the spider puppet.

Councillor Gareth Caple, Cabinet Member for Health & Social Care said “Teddy Bears’ Picnic is a really popular event for our younger residents.

“In 2022, thousands of children and adults came along as families or in school groups to enjoy all the activities and find out key information on services available to them.

“The event gives parents and carers an opportunity to find out more about important support that could be available to them, such as the Childcare Offer for Wales which provides 30 hours of free childcare per week for 3 and 4 year olds. Support such as this can make a real difference to families, especially in current circumstances.

“We can’t wait to do it all again this year and showcase all that is on offer for our youngest residents in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

“Of course, the Family Information Service’s website is available all year round and is an excellent place to find information on a whole range of topics ranging from schools admissions to financial support for childcare. Please visit www.rctfamilies.co.uk at any time and book your free tickets to Teddy Bears’ Picnic to speak to our teams directly.”
