Graig-y-Rhacca Primary School celebrate the opening of their local Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hub.

Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hubs, developed with Keep Wales Tidy, enable residents borrow everything they need to carry out a safe litter pick for free. This includes litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags and hoops (essential for keeping bags open in breezy conditions).

Pupils from Graig-y-Rhacca Primary School were joined by Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association and local councillors, to help litter pick their community in celebration of the new Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hub in Graig-Y-Rhacca Community Centre.

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces said: “A big thank you to the pupils of Graig-y-Rhacca Primary School, the Graig-y-Rhacca Community Association and Councillor Amanda McConnell for their help with the recent litter pick.

“We are very excited to announce the opening of another Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hub within the Borough. We as an Authority are constantly looking for innovative ways to reduce waste and improve our recycling figures, so it is such a shame that litter is still an issue in some areas. These Hubs ensure that anyone who wants to carry out a litter pick can do so safely.”

Councillor Amanda McConnell said: “It was great to see the pupils of Graig-y-Rhacca Primary School taking pride in their local community whilst helping to make our Borough cleaner and greener. A big thank you to everyone involved!”

Graig-y-Rhacca Litter Picking Hub is now available from Graig-Y-Rhacca Community Centre, Machen, Caerphilly CF83 8WW.
