The long summer holidays are here and if you’re thinking of having a family adventure – look no further!

There’s lots going on at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum to keep the kids entertained throughout the Summer.

In addition to the Black Gold Underground Tour and interactive exhibitions, from Tuesday 1st August, there will be FREE activities for kids every day with special guided sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11am – 12pm and 2pm -3pm.

Activities change weekly so you can keep returning over the summer to find new things to do. There’ll be creation stations, fossil making and so much more including:

    • Miner’s Fortnight activities
    • Discover dinosaurs with relics and fossils.
    • Free crafts – make a miners’ helmet and take part in the poppy canopy creation station.

All summer holiday activities are FREE and there’s no need to book – just turn up!

Other free activities over the summer holidays include interactive exhibitions and dressing up for kids.  Parking is free and there’s a fantastic café, complete with kids’ menu, afternoon teas (and coffee for the grown-ups).  If the activities have inspired you, you can also pop upstairs to visit Craft of Hearts and pick up some craft supplies or even book a class.

Why not visit and explore everything this fascinating attraction has to offer?

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said:

Rhondda Heritage Park Museum has always been a great place to visit for families, schools and groups.  Visitors come from all over the world to experience the Black Gold Tour and listen to mining tales first hand from the guides who all worked underground themselves.

There’s a long tradition of children’s events being held in the venue.  The events calendar starts in April each year with Easter Egg-stravaganza.  Halloween is celebrated with Spooktacular and of course, the hugely popular and magical Santa’s Toy Mine takes over from the end of November until Christmas Eve.

The free summer activities are perfect for families looking for ways to keep their children entertained throughout the school holidays and as the activities change weekly, there’s a reason to keep coming back throughout the summer.

A Welsh Coal Mining Experience, Rhondda Heritage Park Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 9am – 4.30pm.
