Following the launch of Popeyes® first restaurant in Wales in Cardiff city centre earlier this year, which saw customers queueing for 11 hours to get their hands on the famous Louisiana Chicken Sandwich, American fried chicken restaurant, Popeyes®, has announced Cardiff Bay as the location for its first Drive-Thru restaurant in Wales.

Opening at 11am on Tuesday 29th of August 2023, the new restaurant will be the chain’s second opening in Wales – less than six months after launching its first Welsh restaurant on Saint John Street, which has served nearly 100,000 Chicken Sandwiches to hungry diners in the Welsh capital so far.

Following the huge demand for the first restaurant in Cardiff, the Cardiff Bay Drive-Thru restaurant is set to be an equally popular new addition to the city.

The new restaurant will be the 11th opening in 2023 and marks the chain’s 28th UK site since opening its first UK restaurant in Stratford in 2021. This opening is the first time Popeyes® UK has launched two restaurants within the same city, in such close succession. Additionally, the success in Wales has meant Popeyes® UK plans to continue its expansion across the country in the near future.

Renowned for its Chicken Sandwich that ‘broke the internet’ when it launched in the US and its world-famous ‘shatter crunch’ chicken, the all-new Popeyes® UK Drive-Thru restaurant will offer the brand’s full mouth-watering menu, which includes the much-loved Signature Louisiana Chicken, Signature Wraps, Chicken Tenders, Hot Wings, and Popeyes® Biscuits with gravy, plus much more, seven days a week.

What’s more, the new Popeyes® Cardiff Bay restaurant will bring its brand-new breakfast menu to the capital for the first time, to offer a twist on British breakfast favourites, including Big Breakfast Rolls and a variety of sausage, bacon, egg and cheese muffins, alongside Cajun hash browns, and Louisiana buttermilk biscuits served with cinnamon sugar or Nutella®.

Popeyes® is set to pull out all the stops to showcase its Southern hospitality as it brings a taste of Louisiana to Cardiff Bay, with opening day giveaways to be announced soon.

The new restaurant will be located in Cardiff Bay Retail Park. Plans include both indoor and outdoor seating, a car park for customers who would like to eat inside the 65-seat restaurant, and kerbside pick up bays for customers who would like to order online for collection.
