From circus workshops to clog dancing, local bands to live theatre – Llandovery Sheep Festival offers a fun packed agenda of performers and entertainment to suit all tastes.

The festival, which takes place on 16 & 17 September in Llandovery town centre, will have an abundance of rural crafts and entertainment. The weekend-long event will also celebrate old drovers’ trails, sheep farming and the wool industry.

From 10am until 10pm there is a full programme of entertainment in Llandovery’s Market Square and in the main car park. All ages are invited to watch the performers and take part in the workshops.

Aaron Perry, from Llandovery, joined the Llandovery Sheep Festival organising group last year and is responsible for organising the live bands performing at the event. With deep roots in Llandovery it has been a lifelong dream of Aaron’s to contribute to this event which is dedicated to boosting the market town’s vibrancy.

A passionate guitarist and lead vocalist, Aaron fronts a band called the Treasure Hunters. A local band that specialise in playing blues and rock music. By day, he is a sound engineer for events across Wales.

Aaron said, “As a newly formed team of organisers we hope this year’s Llandovery Sheep Festival will be a vibrant, community orientated, event. I’ve watched the festival blossom over the years, having both performed and experienced its enchantment. Previous years have set a remarkable standard and I’m determined to meet or try to exceed those expectations. This year’s festival will offer a weekend of exceptional musicians, a tribute to the arts that deserve unwavering support, especially in the wake of recent global events.”

Llandovery’s Market Square and Castle carpark will be a kaleidoscope of colour during the event in September with almost 100 exhibitors displaying their wares from textiles, arts and crafts as well as the locally produced food and drink. The streets of Llandovery will be packed with entertainment and music. There will also be a climate change forum as well as a wide range of workshops and courses.

Tiago Gambogi and Maggi Swallow are organising all the performers for the Llandovery Sheep Festival including Brazilian & Samba rhythms, theatre performances, circus acts and lots more.

A dancer, actor, director, choreographer and a clown, Tiago has been involved with the Sheep Festival for many years and enjoys the challenge each year of putting together a packed programme of entertainment for visitors to enjoy watching and taking part in.

Funding for the entertainment has been gratefully received from the Arts of Council of Wales, the Welsh Government, National Lottery and Tŷ Cerdd.

There will also be an opportunity to watch Bagad Glaziked Pouldregad from 6.30pm on Friday, 15 September in the Castle Hotel, organised by the Llandovery Twinning Association.

A bagad is a Breton band, composed of bagpipes, bombards and drums. The musicians are travelling from their hometown of Pluguffan in Brittany and will be joined by Cor Meibion Llanymddyfri. Together they will perform a collection of traditional Breton and Welsh music.

Llandovery has been twinned with Pluguffan since 1984 and the Sheep Festival is proud to include them in its programme of events.  The evening will also include Cawl a Chan and the cost of the ticket is £10 per person. To book telephone: 07450 862653.

Entry to the Festival is free
