Fairwater’s leisure centre, managed by Better Cardiff, will see major improvements in the coming months.

Better Cardiff (the customer brand of leading charitable leisure social enterprise provider GLL) is providing details of a modern new look for one of the eight leisure centres it manages in Cardiff to support its health and fitness offering to customers.

Work will commence next week on creating a new air conditioned dance studio with a sprung floor and a new fitness room and gym which will be double the size of the current facility. Customers will have 48 work stations to train on instead of the current 21.

The builders will also re-design the reception area of the centre which Cardiff Council originally opened in 1985.

    Deborah Yates, Manager, said:

“We aim to keep the centre fully operational during the refurbishment and our customers can expect minimum disruption. All classes and sessions will still run.

“Customers can look forward to new state of the art facilities and a more modern look and feel to make us a centre of excellence and serve the ever expanding community around us in West Cardiff.”

Cardiff Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Cllr Peter Bradbury said:

“Fairwater Leisure Centre is a well-used, popular facility right in the heart of the community and these exciting improvements will be greatly welcomed by local residents and groups who frequent the centre.

“The partnership with GLL was set out so that residents can have access to high quality leisure services, whilst making savings to the ongoing budget agenda. When completed users will enjoy an overall better experience and continued access to a wide range of sports and leisure amenities, in a modern and attractive venue.”
