The Football Association of Wales has opened the third application window of the PAWB Fund for 2023. The FAW PAWB Fund supports young people and families across Wales to access football opportunities and equipment.

The application is open to 5–18-year-olds living in Wales and can be applied for on behalf of any young player, to support and assist them with accessing football opportunities and/or equipment.

The following items are eligible for support through the fund:

    • Grassroots Club Membership Fees
    • Playing/Club Kit
    • Football Boots
    • Shin Pads
    • Goalkeeper Gloves
    • Sport Hijab
    • Impairment Specific Equipment e.g. Sports Goggles
    • Travel Costs e.g. Train, Bus or Taxi Costs to Training and Match Venues

Clubs, schools, social services and other community organisations can apply for the fund on behalf of recipients. The current application window will be open from Monday 23rd October to Friday 10th November.

The funding available will be decided by a national panel that will use the application information to assess each case. The PAWB Fund can be applied for on an annual basis to ensure support is available for young people to access regular football opportunities.

The PAWB Fund 2023 panel includes representatives from the FAW, Sport Wales, the Grassroots Game, the FAW Youth Council and the FAW Equality Advisory group. The panel has so far, this year successfully awarded £19,374 to support 180 individuals, 146 families and 73 clubs/organisations across all areas of Wales.

Jess Williams, Sport Wales Relationship Manager said, “The FAW PAWB fund is a great example of an initiative that supports young people, and families with the cost barrier that can be associated with playing football.

“By providing an opportunity where people can apply for support to buy boots, shin pads, sport hijabs and more, young people can continue to participate within their communities, enjoying all sport has to offer. This support can be transformative for the lives of recipients, ensuring Football, and Sport in Wales is for everyone.”
