Entries to the 2024 Principality Cardiff Half Marathon are filling up faster than ever before with high demand from overseas competitors.
More than 10,500 entries for the race, on Sunday 6 October 2024, have already been snapped up by runners after just over a week of going on sale.
The Early Bird Entry offer sold out within three hours of launching and event organisers, Run 4 Wales, anticipate this will be the earliest ever sellout in the race’s history.
Matt Newman, Chief Executive of Run 4 Wales, said: “We’re so excited for next year’s event and we can already see that runners from around the world are looking forward to it just as much as we are, having already secured their spot.
“Places for the Principality Cardiff Half have always completely sold out and we’re seeing entries fill up for 2024 at record speed. Since joining the SuperHalf series, Cardiff has been put firmly on the map. It’s now a staple race for so many runners and we’d urge everyone wanting to take part in next year’s event to sign up fast, so not to miss out.”
Since joining the SuperHalfs series, the Principality Cardiff Half Marathon has become increasingly popular with competitors from around the globe. Previously the series was made up of just Cardiff, Valencia, Lisbon, Prague and Copenhagen. But now with Berlin joining the SuperHalfs roster from next year, demand is higher than ever before. Already, almost 1,000 overseas competitors have entered so far.
Husband and wife duo, Elena Micheli, 50, and Paolo Bassani, 54, from Italy, are looking forward to running through the Welsh capital as they look to complete the SuperHalfs series together.
They’ll be joined by Nuria Elio, 49, from Spain is also looking to tick off Cardiff in her SuperHalfs adventure – an incredible feat especially as seven years ago she didn’t run and “wasn’t even thinking about running half marathons and marathons”. She has since joined her local running club, Mujeres Running Pamplona, and added: “Cardiff will be my fifth SuperHalf and I’m also ticking off the Marathon Majors. I’ve already got stars for New York, Boston and Chicago. It shows that with hard work your dreams can come true.”
Andreas Wisler, 48, from Switzerland, will be back again after taking part in the race this year. He added: “I ran the Cardiff Half Marathon this year and really enjoyed the city, the atmosphere and the run. That is the reason I will be taking part again. From registration to the finish, everything was just right and the varied course and many fans along the route carry every runner to the finish line.”
With over 50% of entries already filled, runners need to be quick if they want to secure their space in next year’s Principality Cardiff Half, as once entries are sold out, they can only then enter via one of the official charities.
