Newport Live is helping to organise an urgent fundraising appeal this Christmas for over 300 of the most vulnerable children and young people in Newport, linked to Newport City Council’s Children’s Services. Funds raised, with the help of local volunteers, people, businesses, and organisations will enable the purchase of essential items and gifts this Christmas.

Councillor Stephen Marshall, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “Our teams have identified the most vulnerable children and young people, those who would greatly benefit from this appeal.  During these challenging times where increasing costs of food, fuel, and heating have such an impact on so many people, it is essential the most vulnerable in Newport get support and access to essential items, warm clothes, and toiletries. The collaborative approach of Newport’s Christmas Cwtch appeal, brings local people, local businesses, and our partners, such as Newport Live, together with a common cause to help children and young people who need it the most!”

All funds raised from Newport’s Christmas Cwtch appeal will be used to purchase the following types of essential items and gifts that will offer some comfort during this festive season:

    • Throws/warm blankets, gloves, hats, socks, hoodies/fleece tops
    • Age-appropriate toys/games
    • Books and gift vouchers
    • Hot water bottles
    • Toiletries
    • Christmas treats including selection boxes/biscuits

Volunteers and staff will create hampers, wrap gifts, and deliver Christmas gifts for those children, young people and families identified by Children’s Services.

Andrea Ovey, Director of Business Development at Newport Live said, “Last year our team did a fantastic job working in partnership to raise awareness of the appeal, and in coordinating the donations through our Go Fund Me page. Along with local volunteers, businesses, and the Council team we hope that this year will be even better, and we’re excited to launch the appeal, as it’s such a great cause!  We ask that if you can, please donate, as every penny counts! All funds will go towards making a difference for those children and young people in Newport who need it the most this Christmas.”

To support Newport’s Christmas Cwtch this year, donations can be made via Newport Live’s Go Fund Me Page here. Contact Karl Reed, Head of Community Sport & Wellbeing at [email protected] if you’d like to donate in any other way or would like to discuss fundraising ideas and opportunities for you, your business, or organisation.
