Aaron Ramsey has been there and done it when it comes to world football, and the Welsh legend is now helping his hometown club, Cardiff City, to challenge for promotion in the EFL Championship. The Bluebirds are having a decent season so far and are well and truly in the mix for a playoff place.
Ramsey has been instrumental in the good form at The Cardiff City Stadium this season, with the veteran still showing the same class that once made him one of the best footballers in European football.
Bluebirds Flying
It is now five years since Cardiff City mixed it with the big boys in the Premier League, and after some mixed years in the second tier, things are finally starting to click for the team under new boss Erol Bulut. The former Fenerbahce manager has made Cardiff a popular selection in Championship football betting, and his style of play has been greeted with joy by the majority of supporters.
Bulut was made to go in search of free transfers and loan deals due to Cardiff’s financial troubles, but the Turk did a fantastic job by signing the likes of Dimitrios Goutas, Manolis Siopis, Yakou Meite, and Ramsey, all bringing experience and quality to the squad.
Bulut’s appointment by owner Vincent Tan was seen as something of a surprise during the summer, but the 48-year-old has years of experience managing clubs across Europe, something that is holding him in good stead at Cardiff.
Ramsey’s Incredible Career
Aaron Ramsey may be playing Championship football, but the now 32-year-old was once considered to be one of the best players on the planet. Beginning his career at his hometown club, Cardiff, Ramsey caught the eye of a certain Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager was quick to snap up the Welshman to join his squad, and he would go on to be a key member of the Gunners’ team during a successful period for the club.
Having appeared for Arsenal on over 250 occasions, Ramsey decided to let his contract run down at the Emirates Stadium and would go on to sign a big-money contract at Juventus in 2019. Injuries plagued his Italian adventure, and after three years with the Turin club, he made the surprise decision to join Scottish side Rangers on loan where he would manage only seven games.
France was the next port of call for the Wales International, with him joining Nice on a free transfer, but after more injury problems, his contract was ended by mutual consent just 12 months later. Now, Ramsey is back in the blue of Cardiff City, and although injuries are taking their toll, he has often been the team’s star man when available.
National Treasure
Alongside Gareth Bale, Ramsey was considered to be the star player for the Wales national team during a golden age for the country. At Euro 2016, Ramsey was key in the country’s surprise run to the semi-finals, finishing the tournament as the joint-top assist maker.
In total, Ramsey has represented Wales on over 80 occasions and is the current Captain for The Dragons.
