Six volunteers from Swansea’s local communities are giving their time to help Santa open a new grotto
Their assistance will see the free-entry attraction open at Blaenymaes Community Centre this week.
It’s the idea of Swansea Council’s community development team, using financial support from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF).
Team members recruited the volunteers in the run-up to the launch of the attraction.
Council cabinet member Elliott King said: “We thank the volunteers for helping to give the young people of Blaenymaes some extra sparkle this Christmas.
“We had an excellent response to our call for volunteers who’re happy to offer their spare time.
“It’s a great use of SPF funding and we’re delighted that it’s being used in this way, helping strengthen a local community.
“We thank the local businesses that have offered their support.”
Santa’s Grotto will be open at Blaenymaes Community Centre this Wednesday and Thursday, December 13 and 14, from 3.15-5.15pm.
There’ll be soft play opportunities and a bouncy castle funded by the community centre.
Children will be able to meet Santa and write letters to him.
Each child who visits will receive a selection box donated by Aldi in Fforestfach and Carolyn Harris MP.
Applications from across Swansea for some of the city’s SPF £38.2m funding were made in February and March.
The scheme is being run locally by Swansea Council and funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
