The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) was delighted to welcome representatives of the National Centre for Universities and Business (NCUB) to discuss UWTSD’s collaboration with business and industry during a recent visit to IQ and Y Fforwm, the University’s new development in SA1 Swansea Waterfront.

The NCUB is an independent and not-for-profit membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports university-business collaboration across the UK.

[aoa id=”1″]Dr Joe Marshall, Chief Executive Officer and Mr Will Parsons, Commercial and Engagement Director of NCUB met with members of UWTSD’s senior leadership team to hear about a number of exciting partnerships with such global organisations as Sony in relation to the development of the next generation of education technology.[/aoa]

The partnership has led to the development of the one of the world’s first Vision-Exchangesuites at IQ within which Sony technology delivers a pioneering platform to facilitate a move from traditional lecture theatres and auditoriums to cutting-edge learning spaces. The platform enables collaborative and interactive learning styles that should improve student engagement and attainment and has been rolled out across UWTSD campuses.

In addition, the visit provided the opportunity to discuss UWTSD’s unique collaboration with the NHS Wales Informatics Service on the development of the Wales Institute of Digital Information and a range of programmes for those interested in health informatics; the South Wales and Gwent Police on the development of a framework of qualifications in policing; the Construction Wales Innovation Centre developed in collaboration with the CITB, as well as the University’s flagship work-based learning provision and apprenticeship schemes.

The NCUB representatives also met staff at the Wales Centre for Batch Manufacturing (CBM), a leading research centre in the industrial application of advanced manufacturing technologies to product development and innovation for a range of sectors including aerospace, automotive, and medicine, as well as the Assistive Technology Innovation Centre (ATIC), part of Swansea College of Art, on providing design research and innovation to improve products, services and systems, particularity in relation to health and social care.

“We were delighted to welcome colleagues from NCUB to the University’s new buildings in SA1 Swansea Waterfront”, said Dr Jane Davidson, Pro Vice-Chancellor, External Engagement & Sustainability. “It was an opportunity to highlight some of the University’s key initiatives and to demonstrate how UWTSD has transformed its offer in order to be as relevant as possible to employers and their current and future workforce.

“The higher education landscape is changing rapidly but UWTSD is ahead of the curve as we are co-creating and collaborating with businesses to develop programmes that are responsive, flexible and meet today’s most pressing societal challenges.”

Dr Joe Marshall, CEO National Centre for Universities and Business said:

‘It was a real pleasure to see the great work UWTSD is doing in their impressive new development on Swansea Waterfront. They are co-designing and delivering real innovation, as well as helping to deliver the next generation of graduate talent with the skills business needs.”
