WALES’S cancer charity – Cancer Research Wales, is recruiting a new Chief Executive to head up its operations.

Based in Cardiff, the independent Welsh charity was set up in 1966 and has since invested over £30 million in cancer research projects across Wales.

It funds the best researchers, clinicians and health professionals to push the boundaries and find better treatments for cancer.

Cancer Research Wales is the only charity wholly dedicated to fundraising in Wales to pay for cancer research in Wales.

Gavin Moore, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Cancer Research Wales said:

“Cancer Research Wales’s aim is to unite Wales against cancer and reduce the impact of cancer on the people of Wales. Our groundbreaking research is delivering hope for people affected by cancer and now we’re looking for a new Chief Executive to lead us on this journey.

“Every week in Wales, 175 families lose a loved one to cancer and Wales is one of the lowest performing countries in Europe for cancer survival – this is unacceptable, and we’re determined to change it. This is why Cancer Research Wales is working tirelessly on solutions that detect cancer at the first point of contact, solutions that increase accuracy of diagnosis and remove any barriers to early access to the right healthcare.”

By 2030, it’s estimated that 230,000 people across Wales will have cancer.

Among Cancer Research Wales’s strategic aims are to transform patient outcomes through discovery and delivery of innovative treatments and strategies.

It is also working to increase the proportion of cancers diagnosed at an early stage and improve survival rates.

The the closing date for applications is March 15th 2024 at 12:00 GMT.
