Two Cardiff restaurants victorious in Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2024

The roo-sults are in! Deliveroo announces the winners of its 2024 Restaurant Awards. The awards celebrate the best and most loved independent restaurants across the UK and Ireland – from local independent burger joints to neighbourhood sushi restaurants and all the dishes, cuisines, and flavours in between.

Two local restaurants in Cardiff beat off stiff competition from across South England and Wales after Deliveroo food fans voted with their hearts (and stomachs) for their favourite local establishments.

Much loved Albany Fish Bar , which has been a local institution since 1967, takes home the award for Best Fish and Chips in South England and Wales, while authentic Italian Café and ice cream dessert shop, Calibrisella Geletaria, wins Best Dessert thanks to its fresh artisan ice cream and quality ingredients.

Tariq Siddique, Branch Manager at Albany Fish Bar, said: “We are over the moon to have won the Deliveroo award for Best Fish & Chips in South of England & Wales. We are so grateful to everyone who voted for us – we would not be here without your support. We hope to continue to serve award-winning fish and chips to the communities of Cardiff for years to come.”

The awards also saw much-loved Indian restaurant Dhamaka from Bristol take the top regional gong as Independent Restaurant of the Year South England and Wales 2024 after customers cast their votes online to help decide award winners. Dhamaka – which means ‘explosion’ – symbolises the vibrant flavours and ingredients that can be found in their street-food-style dishes, including delicious curry bowls and tandoori breads.
This year saw a total of 60 awards up for grabs, including the highly coveted Independent Restaurant of the Year, which was won by Dublin-based Greek restaurant Yeeros, and a number of ‘above and beyond categories’, including Beating Heart of the Community, Rider Love, Most Sustainable Restaurant and Customer Innovation.

Over 66,000 votes were cast by loyal customers over a two-week period to crown no less than 50 regional cuisine-led winners from Best Thai to Best Burger, Best Pizza, Best Chicken and beyond. Votes were cast across five regions in the UK and Ireland (London, South England & Wales, North England & East Midlands, Scotland and Ireland) by hungry fans keen to show support for their favourite local restaurants.

Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu said: “I say it every year, but the standard of finalists and winners for this year’s Restaurant Awards has been incredible. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a number of restaurant owners to hear about their stories, food, and the positive impact they’ve had on their local communities and we are proud to partner with such an incredible array of dedicated restaurants to deliver food from around the world to doorsteps across the UK and Ireland. A huge well done to all of this year’s winners.”

All winners will be announced on Deliveroo’s social channels from 21st February as part of a 2024 Restaurant Awards social takeover, which will spotlight all 60 award winners.
