    With the Easter holidays soon upon us, families in South Wales are looking for adventures and activities to enjoy throughout the fortnight.

    From Easter Fun Days to breath-taking waterfalls, and family-friendly biking trails to centuries of history to uncover ¾ there’s something for every member of the family to enjoy this Easter holidays in the Dramatic Heart of Wales.

    Here are five family-friendly activities which can be carried out in the Dramatic Heart of Wales this Easter holiday:

    Family Fun Days

    Nestled within 1000 acres of glorious parkland, Margam Country Park is immersed in history, home to rare wildlife, and offers outstanding natural landscapes.

    This Easter holiday, Margam Park is offering Easter Monday Family Fun Day, Wildlife activities, Archery, an Easter Bunny walk and more.

    Throughout the fortnight, the site welcomes families for relaxing walking trails through its sprawling grounds and is home to rich history: see its striking 19th Century Tudor Gothic Castle, the Cistercian Abbey and Celtic Stones Museum.

    For active families seeking faster-paced adventures, Go Ape Tree Top Challenge is taking bookings for the Easter holidays too.

    The stunning Gnoll Estate Country Park, situated within 200 acres of wonderful woodland is home to a variety of adventure playgrounds, marked woodland walks and a homely café and visitors centre. Families can get stuck in at their Easter Fun Fair with free activities and entertainment daily from 12pm to 5pm.

    Adventure Activities

    The Dramatic Heart of Wales springs into action this Easter holiday, with Margam Park Adventure and South Wales Adventure Company, offering a variety of pulse racing activities.

    Start the Easter weekend off right on Saturday, March 30th, with a rejuvenating SUP yoga class or dive into an exhilarating stand-up paddleboarding taster session on the lake.

    Then, on Easter Sunday, March 31st, spend the day with furry friends by joining a dog-friendly canoe and kayak session.

    To finish the bank holiday weekend on Easter Monday, April 1st, with a high, gather the family for a friendly archery taster session, suitable for ages 7 and above.

    From the 25th to 27th of March and the 3rd to 5th of April, South Wales Adventure Company are hosting Easter activity days featuring archery, SUP, kayaking, and more.

    Night kayaking has also been taking social media by storm; arriving after dark, visitors can stargaze while meandering along Neath Canal in illuminated kayaks.

    History and Culture Trips

    Delve into the tales of South Wales in the Dramatic Heart of Wales this Easter holiday. Discover one of the most impressive monastic remains in Wales at Neath Abbey, the rich industrial history at South Wales Miners’ Museum and the medieval spectacular of Margam Abbey and Stones Museum.

    The Dramatic Heart of Wales has also featured in a variety of TV shows and films thanks to its stunning scenery and sweeping landscapes. Those who are film enthusiasts can explore the film sets of the likes of Dr Who, Twin Town and The Passion through the Film Set Trails.

    Wonderful Walks

    Outdoor lovers are spoilt for choice with walks for all levels amidst the incredible landscapes of the Dramatic Heart of Wales. Discover leafy countryside, tranquil canals, rushing waterfalls and fascinating industrial heritage.

    The recently re-opened Aberdulais Tin Works and Falls welcomes visitors on Thursdays and Fridays, while Melincourt Waterfall is accessible for visitors throughout the fortnight. The Afan Valley is the perfect spot for a winding woodland walk, and Aberavon Seafront welcomes brave open-water swimmers when the lifeguards return from the first week of April.

    Family Bike Rides

    Looking to get your pulse racing? Try Margam Park Adventure’s mountain biking guided tour on Saturday 20th April at 10:30am in Margam Country Park, available for those aged over 14.

    For younger adrenaline-enthusiasts, there’s also a mountain bike guided tour for those between the age of 10-16 at 2pm. These tours are for those wishing for a ride across acres of parkland, visiting some not-to-be-missed viewpoints and hopefully seeing many of the resident deer along the way.

    You can also cycle at your leisure along the picturesque Neath Canal, through the tranquil beauty of Margam, or amidst the lush greenery of Afan Forest Park. Dust off those bikes, pack a picnic and set off on an unforgettable day filled with laughter, discovery, and the beauty of the great outdoors.
