A team from Redrow has gone ‘back to school’ to help transform a local Cardiff primary in need of a bit of a boost.
As part of the Redrow Graduate Programme, a team from the most recent intake spent time at Ysgol Gymraeg Coed y Gof – a Welsh medium school in Pentrebane – helping to renovate recreational areas much in need of repair.
[aoa id=”1″]The graduates from various Redrow divisions across the UK – along with special guest, ex-Welsh professional rugby player Alix Popham – were delighted to show the excited pupils exactly what had been achieved as they officially handed over the new areas.[/aoa]
Graduates were on site for a week working on five zones within their redevelopment plans which included new rubber bound bark chipping, blackboard walls and Wendy houses, as well as literacy, numeracy and sports corners.
Zone five undertook the biggest change, being transformed into a new sensory garden for the pupils comprising of a sensory path, log seating, and herb garden.
Closely located to Redrow’s Cae St Fagans development at Plasdŵr, a lack of funding has seen the school’s external areas sadly neglected but it was Redrow to the rescue!
The team of 20, along with the help of staff and much appreciated donations from Redrow contractors and suppliers – including Ginkgo, Gwent Gardens, Bell’s, Parker’s, Jewsons, Rexel, Dulux, DAS Outdoors, Speedy Hire, Lex Autolease, Golley Slater, Office Supplies and Accenture – made sure work was completed in time for pupils to enjoy.
Speaking about the Redrow project, Huw Darch – Form Teacher at Coed y Gof – said:
“Myself, the staff and most importantly the pupils are delighted with the result. External playground facilities are just as important as in the classroom, and the Redrow graduate team has gone above and beyond to help create a safe, fun space for the pupils to enjoy during their time with us. I’d like to say a huge thank you on behalf of Coed Y Gof to everyone that helped make this project such a success.”
Redrow Graduate trainee, William Morgan added:
“It’s been a total team effort – it’s been very exciting, and we are so glad to see how happy the pupils are with the final result.
“We strongly believe that as a community we have come together to improve the learning environment for these children. We hope we have shown the positive aspects that development can bring to a community and that it will inspire the future generation consider careers within the construction industry.”
